Moving across the prairie

Left Rapid City this morning about 7:30. Our first stop was the Wall Drugstore in Wall SD. Very interesting place with lots of souvenirs (some made in China). On our last day there wasn't much to take pictures of. South Dakota is a giant prairie with lots of farms and cattle. We ate lunch at McDonalds and drove until 7:00 tonight when we finally found a motel (Super 8) behind a truckstop. Almost in MO too. So tomorrow, we will be back home. It's been a great trip and I would recommend for all to go to Yellowstone. You will see just how beautiful it is for yourself and come home refreshed and invigorated. For at least a day hopefully. Next I will get home and go over all my pictures. I think we took about 500. I did buy a Yellowstone album but it only holds 200 pictures. So, thanks to all who kept track of our trip and I'll let you know when we travel again. Nothing planned for now. This will take a while to get over and to PAY FOR.

Heading Home

Left Cody WY this morning at 8:00. It had rained overnight but didn't help our dirty car. Looks worse. We are heading toward Rapid City SD today. Took a detour to go to Devil's Tower which was pretty cool. Then back on the interstate east. We made it to Rapid City around 4:00 and decided to go to the Crazy Horse Monument. We stayed till almost dark and since we didn't have a hotel for the night yet or hadn't eaten we thought we'd better leave but we could have spent a day there. Very impressive. Will be something to behold when it's done. We are opting out of Mt Rushmore. Getting kind of anxious to get home. Tomorrow we want to make it to at least Omaha for the night. Only stop that we know of is the Wall Drugstore in Wall SD.

Back to civilization

Left the Flagg Ranch this morning to head out the east entrance to Yellowstone and towards Cody WY. It was a beautiful drive along the Yellowstone Lake and the over Sylvan Pass to the east entrance. We made it to Cody around 12:30. So tonight we have TV and internet and will be heading towards Rapid City SD tomorrow.

Last Day in Jackson

This morning after breakfast we took a LONG walk all around Jackson checking out the shops and hot spots. Jackson is quite a quaint town with lots of galleries and shops of all kinds. Pretty pricey too even with the end of season sales. After going to a Chinese buffet for lunch, we went to Grand Teton Park and did the drive through. What scenery we saw. It was a beautiful day of about 70 degrees with not a cloud in the sky. Came back to town and took a little rest until about 5:30 when we went out for an ice cream and looked for a few souvenirs. Now settled for the evening and will be going to Jedediah's for all you can eat breakfast. That should do us until dinner when we will be at the Flagg Ranch. There is NO internet at Flagg Ranch so I won't be blogging for 4 days unless I find something. But we will be doing the Yellowstone tour and will be heading for Cody WY for Sunday night. So, I will sign off until Sunday.

What a trip to Jackson

We started our day from Laramie driving west on I-80. At Rawlins we took HWY 287 North towards Yellowstone. It was a six hour drive but boy was it worth it. The different kinds of mountains we saw and all the sagebrush. I was so surprised how nice it smells. Will have to look for that scent in candles or something. We saw mountains with sage brush all over them, mountains that looked just like sand, red rock mountains and then the Grand Tetons. Arrived at Jackson about 3:30. After a little rest we went out and walked the town. Lots of people were about and lots of stores and galleries to browse around. Tomorrow will be another day about town and looking for a bison burger to try.

Mountains ahead

We have gone from the cornfields of eastern Nebraska to the prairies of western Nebraska and tonight we are staying in Laramie WY. Saw these rocky formations on the side of I-80 as we got into WY. This is some beautiful country to behold. Tomorrow it's on to Jackson WY for two days at the Ranch Inn. Also saw these giant windmills on the way. About 20 of them. They were swishing pretty fast too. We need some of that windpower in MO. HAH!!!

Hello from Kearney NE

We left this morning at 7:00 in a pouring rain but within an hour we drove out of it. It was a pretty long first day. We got stuck in traffic in Lincoln NE due to the football game. Lots of "Huskers" running around. After we arrive at our Comfort Inn for the night, we went in search of our first Cabellas of the West. I have pictured it. This is the Kearney store which is the oldest Cabellas in the country. The oldest store was in Sydney NE but was torn down to build a new one. May have to check that out tomorrow when we head west towards Sydney and our destination for the day, Laramie WY.

Pics to Ponder

This is a test. I found a couple of good pics on the internet. Yellowstone Falls and Bob the Bison. Wanted to learn HOW to put pictures on my blog. I guess I did it. Think we will find them when we go? Two weeks from tomorrow we will be leaving.

The countdown

Five weeks from this Saturday we will be leaving for our trip to Yellowstone. Haven't really gotten any packing done yet. Lots of lists going of things to do before we leave and things we want to take along with us. So, for now, we are in a holding pattern.

Two months and counting

Two months from today we will be on the road. I think we may be near Cheyenne WY for our second night on the road. The third day we should arrive at our first stop Jackson Hole WY. We will be staying at the Ranch Inn for two nights. With high speed internet connection I should have no trouble keeping you all posted of our two days in Jackson.

Summer 2009

We are planning our trip to Yellowstone for September 5 when we take off in our automobile for the West.
